ISQOLS Webinar,
"Insights on Social Connections and Loneliness in OECD Countries"
Presenter: Carrie Exton, Senior Counsellor, OECD Centre for Well-being, Inclusion, Sustainability and Equal Opportunity (WISE)
Tuesday, 25 November/12:00PM CET
Over the past five years, the OECD Centre on Well-Being, Inclusion, Sustainability and Equal Opportunity (WISE) has driven well-being measurement and policy forward through innovative initiatives, pioneering data tools, and global convenings addressing critical challenges and mapping how human well-being is impacted by economic and social transformations.
As part of its broader work on measuring well-being and progress, in October, the OECD WISE Centre launched its report Social Connections and Loneliness in OECD Countries. Building on the OECD’s flagship well-being publication How’s Life? 2024 this is the first international report to provide a comprehensive comparative assessment of the state of social connections across OECD countries. It identifies who is most vulnerable to isolation and loneliness – including the elderly, those who live alone, and those experiencing financial precarity – as well as newly emerging at-risk groups, such as men and young people, and explores the policy implications of these emerging trends. Given that social connections are in part shaped by structural conditions and policy choices, the report also highlights the importance of community-level interventions, including, for example, improving access to social infrastructure.
As we celebrate the WISE Centre’s 5th anniversary, join us for this webinar to learn about some of the key findings from the report and perspectives on why social connections are important for public policy.
